We had a bus/ walking tour of this beautiful city this afternoon.
We started the visit with the Basilique Notre Dame de Fourviere on the highest hill of Lyon with fabulous views. It has a black Madonna and beautiful mosaics.
This city teems with history. It was known for the production and weaving of silk, but in modern times it has developed a reputation as the capital of gastronomy in France.
It also has a significant role in the history of cinema due to Auguste and Louis Lumiere, who invented cinematography in Lyon.
The Historic site of Lyon was designated as a UNESCO world Heritage Site in 1998.
We did visit a 'traboule' which is a narrow passage way that passes through buildings and link the streets on either side. Just fascinating!
The city has a vibrant cultural scene and is home to a few universities. Beautiful city!
