SAN GIMIGNANO and SIENA

SAN GIMIGNANO and SIENA

Everyone loved charming San Gimignano, the medieval town famous for its ancient towers. It was delightful to explore, shop, eat gelato and stroll through the narrow streets when we finally made it up there - what a climb! We are so lucky to have such  hot sunny days.
We enjoyed the wine they produce and a delicious light lunch of organic salads and cheeses provided by Umberto at his family farmhouse Fattoria San Donato near San Gimignano.
We then headed to Siena to meet our local tour guide Sara in front of San Domenico Church for a 3 hour private guided walking tour. Yet another town of challenging hills. She explained the history, art and culture and about the famous Palio race which takes place every summer and took us inside the beautiful Gothic church with its beautiful marble floor.
Spectacular views of the countryside, this evening under a full moon.
Remaining in Siena, we had a delicious Tuscan dinner at Enoteca Compagnia dei Vinattieri before heading back to our hotel in Colle di Val d’Elsa.
Everyone is exhausted and looking forward to a less strenuous but equally amazing day tomorrow.
