Amalfi Coast, Italy

The Amalfi Coast is full of wonderful treasures such as Pompei, the Island of Capri, the hillside towns of Positano, Amalfi and Ravello.  We had a fabulous week exploring these wonderful places, enjoyed the scenery, excellent shopping and delectable food.

Our hotel was located on the outskirts of Sorrento overlooking the sea. Hotel Mediterraneo is a luxury boutique hotel offering rooms with spectacular sea views, a lovely pool area surrounded by gardens and exceptional service.  The staff at the front desk are very accommodating and always pleasant, the waiter in the cocktail lounge is quite entertaining.  If you visit the Mediterraneo be sure to say hello to bar tender "Nobody".

Our day on Capri was lovely, we toured the towns and some of the gals took the chair lift up to the top to enjoy the view of the sea and the towns along the coast.  We took a bus trip on the winding roads to visit Positano, Amalfi and Ravello.  Teh gals found a fantastic shoe shop in Positano and they took a boat ride while in Amalfi.  The scenery along the coast is absolutely stunning.

During our free day in Sorrento the ladies had a great time exploring the narrow streets and fabulous shops.  I think the suitcases are going to be much heavier on our return.

We took a day trip to visit La Messeria, a local farm which produces olive oil, marmalade, honey and grows lemons for the production of lemoncello. One of their neighbours came by to give us a cheese making demonstration of the famous buffalo mozzerla and ricotta.  Delicious.

The ladies thoroughly enjoyed their hands on cooking class at the Sorrento Cooking School. Chef Mina was delightful and a wonderful teacher and her assistant Monica's translations were excellent.

We had some wonderful meals. A few restaurants that really stand out in my mind are Dona Sofia located on a hillside above the town of Sorrento. The owner picked us up and drove us through the narrow alley ways to his restaurant.  It's a good thing as we never would have found it on our own.  We enjoyed a lovely sunset at Restorante Marameo, located in a pier over looking the sea and the cliffs of Sorrento.  They served fresh seafood which I must say was one of my best meals and the service was exceptional. Another fabulous meal was at Restorante Parrucchiano, located in Sorrento.  Excellent food and wonderful service.  The last evening we had dinner at our hotel. A buffet barbeque was served on the patio overlooking the gardens and pool.  A great way to end the day and a fabulous trip.
