Danube River Cruise - Bratislava

Our overnight cruise was smooth and quiet and 9am we pulled in to Bratislava, capital of Slovakia.   In 1918 the Slovaks joined the Czechs to form Czechoslovakia.  Following World War II this became a Soviet nation within the Soviet-rule Eastern Europe.  Soviet influences collapsed in 1989 and Czechoslovakia once more became free. The Slovaks and the Czechs agreed to separate peacefully on Jan. 01, 1993.  The town of Bratislava is just steps away from the ship and is nearly all  pedestrian zone and abounds with charming houses and buildings which mostly have been restored and repainted after the fall of Communism.

Today there were a few tours to choose from, a walking tour of the Bratislava or a bus tour which focused on the communist period.

The walking tour was the perfect way to see the old town to view the city’s main square, the Philharmonic building, St Michael’s Gate and more.  The inner town is filled with quite a number of unique, and sometimes eccentric sculptures, charming restaurants and cafes..

The gang from Burlington had the right idea on how to end off a great walking tour, enjoying a cool Pilsner at an outdoor cafe. Cheers!

This afternoon our ship sets off for Vienna.  The weather is gloriously warm and sunny, perfect for relaxing on the sun deck while enjoying the scenery along the Danube.  The captain has opened the wheel house for those interested in learning about the ships operation and Krassi is in the lounge playing lovely music.  This has been a wonderful day!  This evening, after an early dinner we head into Vienna for a Mozart concert.  What a wonderful treat!
