French Polynesia - beach party at Taha'a (Motu Mahana)

Motu Mahana, an islet adjacent to Taha'a, is Paul Gaugin's very own South Seas paradise featuring white sand beaches with swaying palms, crystal-clear waters and gentle breezes. As an exclusive Paul Gauguin event, guests spend a full day exploring this idyllic, isolated island, and relaxing with a delicious barbecue lunch and Polynesian entertainment featuring strolling musicians and singers.

The group had so much fun partying on the beach. Lynn made friends with the waiter. Some of us were decorated as princess of the sea. Take a look at the flooding bar, the perfect addition for a backyard pool or cottage lakefront.

French Polynesia Cruise - Annie's day in paradise.

Annie's Day in Paradise:

Today had to be one of the most amazing days of my life. I took a Lagoon Cruise & Polynesian Feast Tour.
We had 3 snorkel stops - the first one with the sharks. As we stopped the boat we were surrounded by black tip sharks. We watched them for a few minutes them i dove in amongst them. They feed at night so we were hoping they had full bellies. There were more than 20 and they swam amongst us. I tried to get a full on frontal photo but they avoided me. Unbelievable experience.

Second stop was the Sting Rays. They must be a different species than those in Antiqua because they would let us feed them. The reason was that the suction was to hard they could hurt us if we didn't know what we were doing. As the guides fed the rays, the sharks came in to feed too so we had both sharks and rays all around us.
The third stop was the Coral Garden. It was like dropping into an acquarium. So many species of fish and hundreds of them in schools. My guide gave me several things to touch and hold - sea cucumber, see urchin and a puffed up star fish. So much fun!

Then we went to a private island where they cooked us lunch in the traditional Polynesian way - earth oven. Roast suckling pig, taro, breadfruit, plantain, poi (made w/ bananas) and on the gril were 3 types of fish - lagoon fish (like catfish), tuna and mahi mahi. It was served to us on palm leaf plates, our teeth being our knife and our fingers our fork.
One couple in our group was from Paris, France and shared a bottle of Champagne with us. So we ate our feast at a table in the water, under an umbrella, sipping champagne with hundreds of small fish to help us clean our fingers and eat our scraps

This place is a paradise, and that is an understatement! I hope to come back here again some day but just in case I don't I am filling each day with a new adventure and loving every minute of it.
I would love to share my underwater photos, but for some reason I can't download them on the iPad. Here are just a few -

French Polynesia Cruise - Bora Bora

Hello from Bora Bora. Wish you were here. I don't want to go home. It is hot, hot, hot and beautiful!

Bora Bora is a little jewel of an island set within a wide barrier reef through which there is only one pass, Te Ava Nui.  Like others of the Leeward Islands, Bora Bora is the eroded cone of an extinct and extensive volcano.
The eastern part of the island is dominated by the spectaclar basaltic mountain named Otemanu, meaning the sea of birds, while the isles of Toopua and Toopua-iti are the remnants of the western rim.  The ancient Polynesians called this island Porapora or first born believing that it was the first island to rise after Havai'i
Captain James Cook was the first western to sight Bora Bora in 1769.  The London Missionary Society arrived in 1820 and most of the islanders converted to Protestant. The missionaries staunchly supported local rule and enacted codes to keep Bora Bora out of the treaties signed between Pomare V and the French who did not annex the island until 1888.
During World War II 5,000 American troops were dispatched to the island to establish supply base for the materials enroute to the Solomon
Islands.  During that time they built a wharf at Farepiti and the airstrip on  Motu Mute.
Each of us did our own thing for the 2 days, scuba diving, swimming on a private beach, safari's, 4 wheel drive tours, snorkeling with sharks and sting rays just to name a few.
Dining on the ship is exquisite, the food, the company and the ambiance. I'm sure going to miss dining outdoors.

French Polynesia - Cook Islands, underwater life and touring the islands.

Aitutaki's coral reefs enclose a particularly large and beautiful lagoon. Uninhabited, palm-clad islets (motus) dot the reef, and even the main island is only eight square miles in area. Bask in the sun and enjoy breath-taking views of the shimmering lagoon during a lagoon cruise and beach visit. Or venture to a nearby marine reserve for some snorkeling. Arutanga village is the island's town, home to the oldest church in the Cooks, which dates from 1829.

Rarotonga, capital of the Cook Islands and the most mountainous of the group. Although this is one of the most beautiful places in the world to do nothing, there are a plethora of options for getting as active as you want. Snorkel in the crystalline waters of Muri Lagoon, or encounter the lushness of tropical nature in the Takitumu Conservation Area.

French Polynesia - cruising on the Paul Gaugin

Today we boarded the luxury 5 star Paul Gaugin cruise ship. Vino was there to welcome us and there was a lovely surprise waiting for us in our cabin, a fabulous floral arrangement..  The view is spectacular from our cabin and  the ship amenties excellent. Colleen and Lori had the honour of dining with the Captain.
During the day we relaxed, had a lovely lunch at the outdoor, enjoyed swimming in the refreshing pool and sipping drinks at the bar.  I can see this is going to be a wonderful trip.

Jan. 25th. They group arrived Papeete,Tahiti early morning and transferred to the Intercontinental Hotel for the day.  A few couples arrived earlier and spent a 2 nights relaxing at the resort before they set sail.
